Susan Rhodes Counselling in Fulham

My interest in counselling emerged from many years of working in human resource management for large-scale international projects in South East Asia where it became clear to me that the focus on the ‘helping’ side of any job equation was of personal paramount importance. This also gave me a deep understanding of the way that culture impacts personal and professional lives and also an understanding of the challenges faced by many clients in a high performance workplace.

Subsequent to that I had the privilege to work for eight years as a Foster carer where I gained first hand knowledge of the type of challenges met by young people who have experienced pain and trauma having had to cope with a lack of care and security in oftentimes violent and abusive homes.

Having met with these experiences I felt then that I was finally ready to pursue a long held desire to train to be a therapist and work one on one with people in a therapeutic way. Having completed my training in 2010 I have been counselling in local authority, educational settings, and within the volunteer sector.

For the last three years I have been working primarily with clients who have suffered sexual and domestic violence and childhood sexual trauma and in this area I work specifically, to ground and contain clients.

What I want to offer clients is a relationship of safety where even the most difficult and feared parts of your experiencing can be heard. My approach is largely person centred and relational and I work in the understanding that you have the resources for self growth and I work to provide the elements within our relationship that will encourage that growth. I hope to provide a space where you can be met without judgement and be along side you as you explore your life experiences or, whatever it is you bring that you wish to explore and work on.

My own life experiences and learning through my work with clients, have led me to believe, wholeheartedly that you, yourself, have the resources to work to overcome whatever life throws at you even the most traumatic and challenging of circumstances.

I regularly see clients who have experienced difficulties with :
